Unseating most LGBT House members is an official priority for the GOP in 2020

One of Republicans’ priorities for the 2020 elections will be unseating most of the current LGBT House members.

The National Republican Congressional Committee issued a list last Thursday of 55 Democratic Representatives that it will be targeting in the 2020 elections, which includes five of the eight LGBT House members.

With 235 Democrats in the House, the Republicans’ list of 2020 targets includes 23% of Democratic representatives but 63% of LGBT representatives.

Included in the list are representatives Katie Hill (CA), Sharice Davids (KS), Angie Craig (MN), Chris Pappas (NH), and Sean Maloney (NY).

Mark Takano (CA), David Cicilline (RI), and Mark Pocan (WI) are not on the list of targets.

“Freedom or socialism — that’s the choice in 2020,” NRCC Chairman Tom Emmer said in a statement.

Most of the representatives on the list are from districts that either supported Donald Trump in 2016 or were held by Republicans before the 2018 elections.

Hill, Davids, Craig, and Pappas were all elected to the House for the first time in 2018.
