Oregon university expands gender and sexual orientation options

Students at Portland State University now have options beyond “man” and “woman,” “gay” and “straight” when it comes to identifying themselves on school paperwork.

The expansion comes in response to 2015 legislation requiring Oregon schools to allow students to include their sexual orientation for anonymous tracking purposes.

According to the Willamette Week:

Oregon has been progressive when it comes to gender identity in particular. Portland recently moved to make all single-stall bathrooms unisex and an Oregon resident was the first person in the country to be legalized recognized as non-binary.
