an epic and historic first film in which an lgbtqqian character doesn't die, isn't either killed or murdered by Hollywood. I saw it when I was 22 with my BFF. it changed my life and gave me hope to live and stay alive in the start of the aids crisis in San Francisco. Sadly HW keeps killing or portaying us as damaged somehow. Although I never saw broke back mountain, and still don't want to, only tonight I Moonlight. I can say HW still is marginalizing us. Maybe after lgbtqqian divorce court or jerry springer shows put us in the mainstream, HW will make better films. smdh.

The tag line to the film should have been: "It's not love. It's oppression."

I was stationed in Germany when this came out they did not reveal ahead of time this was a gay movies most people though it was about sex between a man and a woman it was very controversial after the public saw it.I remember soldiers in my squadron being pissed they got ripped off.

This was a big thing at the time. There was a real storm of controversy over this.

This film was very controversial for its day (1982). Back then, no one was talking about same-sex marriage, homosexuality was taboo and gays not very visible like today. So much has changed in nearly 24 years.....for the good ! Even the "love scenes" and simple kisses between the two men in the movie were hidden and obscured. Makes one wonder and particularly the young generation of today,....what was everyone so up-tight, insecure and afraid of about same-sex attractions and relationships, anyhow ?

I found a rare copy of this amazing film on EBay and watched it. Though Claire didn't jump up and down and scream, she was much more subtle than that, she did find ways of letting her husband know that she knew something was wrong and needed to be discussed. The broken plate scene was sheer genius in this respect, for its shock and awe quality and the realization that Claire was capable of such things to get a point across. This movie was way ahead of its time and laid the groundwork for other movies of this nature to be produced and recognized.

I have seen this movie numerous times and while I enjoy it- I always want more from Claire. More anger. More confusion. More emotion. MORE. Just...MORE. She always seemed to calm in a way. Sadly, Michael Ontkean has dismissed the film and refuses to admit he had anything to do with it. Kate and Harry Hamlin embrace the film. Harry loves his gay fans. My best friend growing up was gay (as am I) and he was always Team Harry and I was Team Michael. LOL....

God DID not create marriage. Show me ONE...just ONE scripture where Jesus-the song of God-or God himself says one word against or for homosexuality. You can't because it does not exist. You condemn homosexuality YET you do not condemn eating shellfish, women getting married when they are not virgins, divorce, wearing clothing of mixed materials and have you forgotten this o' hethen- THOU SHALT NOT JUDGE. Or..."Love Thy Neighbor as you love yourself. THIS I COMMAND OF YOU".

Wow. Brings back memories. Thanks for uploading. Love Kate Jackson's portrayal of Claire in the film. The ending scene is achingly bittersweet followed by the theme song...storytelling perfection.
