Description Three time periods - young adolescence, mid-teen and young adult - in the life of black-American Chiron is presented. When a child, Chiron lives with his single, crack addict mother Paula in a crime ridden neighborhood in Miami. Chiron is a shy, withdrawn child largely due to his small size and being neglected by his mother, who is more concerned about getting her fixes and satisfying her carnal needs than taking care of him. Because of these issues, Chiron is bullied, the slurs hurled at him which he doesn't understand beyond knowing that they are meant to be hurtful. Besides his same aged Cuban-American friend Kevin, Chiron is given what little guidance he has in life from a neighborhood drug dealer named Juan, who can see that he is neglected, and Juan's caring girlfriend Teresa, whose home acts as a sanctuary away from the bullies and away from Paula's abuse. With this childhood as a foundation, Chiron may have a predetermined path in life, one that will only be magnified in terms of its problems when he reaches his difficult teen years when peer pressure affects what he and many of his peers do, unless he follows Juan's advice of truly making his own decisions for himself.

I had strongly mixed feelings about this film. It's powerful but flawed. Not the best film of the year, no matter what Oscar said.

I was extremely disappointed. Not because of the gay agenda but because the movie lacked so much. One of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Well not being an American and also being straight I found the movie hard to watch. To start with I know English is a first language for back Americans but you wouldn't know it with some of the speech patterns used in the film. Maybe you have to be an American to understand some black American speech patterns. Now some Scottish people speaking English can be hard to understand but remember Gaelic was a first language for them in the past so the Scottish speak a mixture with some accent depending on where you go. Now I thought the prime purpose of a film was to entertain and perhaps edify , I think Moonlight missed the mark somewhere.

I didn't watch the trailer, started watching the movie, turned it off once that gay shit start happening... I don't agree with homosexuality... fuck you if you think I'm wrong...

I do believe its a lot of downlow gay brothers and activities in the black community. But i don't know if i believe, that this is common in every black neighborhood. I dont condone homosexuality. It's just not morally right. You cant produce anything out of a homosexual relationship. God didnt intend for it to be this way.

If blacks want to see themselves represented, go see these movies. Nobody noticed Moonlight on cinemas till the nomination. You went to see something else. Start supporting your own before blasting the racism in media and bla bla

I just saw this movie. I wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a lot of silence and staring. I was not impressed. I get that it's groundbreaking with an all black cast. I think was a let down. I expected so much more from the Best Picture of 2016!

l guess if kids start stealing at an early age we should just embrace it and just say they were born that way .even animals know right from wrong

OMG the trailer for this movie is so fucking powerful. I hate to admit this, but every time I watch this trailer I feel so moved by the dramatic strings and the beautiful close ups of emotions and people. Damn this shit is moving!!!!
