Description Ronnie Scheib of Variety says this is writer-director Matt Sobel's, first full length film. 'Take Me to the River' unfolds in an atmosphere of mystery and dread that contrasts with its surroundings' bucolic serenity. A gay Californian teenager's visit to Nebraskan relatives turns more nightmarish than he anticipated, for reasons that he never could have imagined, as clouds of displaced sexuality hover over flowing rivers, fertile fields and little girls on big horses. Told uniquely through the kid's (Ryder, played by Logan Miller) largely uncomprehending point of view, this Midwestern gothic tale maintains sufficient visual distance to suggest alternative narratives from other perspectives. This superlatively acted indie film promises more than it delivers, but chillingly evokes sufficient primal dread to intrigue all audiences. The film debuted at the Sundance festival on January 26, 2015.

Did anyone else get the mini info towards the end when the uncle reveals the big secret between him and his sister and what molly said about Ryder's "dad" not being his real dad...I think his "uncle" is his real dad. His Uncle-Dad like a real 'murican

I wouldn't even suggest it for the lgbt community. It's triggering and just left me confused, dissatisfied, and ultimately pissed off. Probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

If you like the type of movies that don't spoon feed you everything and insult your intelligence, then it might be worth watching. If this wasn't too intellectually challenging to watch then graduate to films such as Primer (2004) or Syriana (2005). Otherwise stick to the Hollywood blockbusters.

(SPOILERS) One thing I'm still not entirely clear on is why it keeps being brought up that 'such-and-such isn't my real family'. Like in the beginning - Molly asks Ryder if it's true that Don (I think that's his name) isn't actually his father, and Ryder is obviously confused about it; then in the river Molly says that this 'isn't her real family'. Were they meant to be hints at Keith's state of mind and the abuse? Like was Molly's father telling her that Don wasn't Ryder's dad? And did she, on some level, know that what was going on was wrong and want to escape it? Sorry if this is unclear. Rereading it, it seems kind of jumbled but I don't know how I can word it better

this movie was fucking disgusting. the uncle is a nasty psycho pedo. the mom is a creep that secretly wants her son. she's always kissing him and touching him in these longing ways. the niece fucking molested her gay cousin and he got blamed for it. the dad is a pure idiot. absolute imbecile. there wasn't even a plot or anything it was just a showcase of nastiness.

I minor should not have been given the script that Molly had been given. Very irresponsible. The movie made me angry because at some point there should have been some confrontation. I have no problem with it being mysterious for the most part but I think at the very end somethings should be crystal clear. If I were Ryder I would have questioned what really happened to Molly when they went in the barn. He never questioned it. The father invited him over for an apology lunch and he just went... Doesn't make sense. All in all I thought it was a good movie but lacked the appropriate ending.

Spoilers: Just watched it and i get it.............. The boy's mom had sex with the uncle when they where kids, Grandma finds out thinking it was the uncles idea. The uncle uses the little girl to show the boy what really happen/prove a point i'm guessing. To show this is what your mother did. He says "Didn't your mother show you that one Ryder, she use to love playing that when we where little. She was always telling me to go down the river to go "Chicken Fighting"
