The plan is to acquire sufficient funds to acquire ships from Silesian pirates who could then transport them to other lands from Brandisium in the south. The Roman Senator Gracchus schemes to have Marcus Publius Glabrus, Commander of the garrison of Rome, lead an army against the slaves who are living on Vesuvius. When Glabrus is defeated his mentor, Senator and General Marcus Licinius Crassus is greatly embarrassed and leads his own army against the slaves. I don't know how Stanley got chances to make such huge films in his early part of his cinematic career, he is certainly a genius. I think it's his last film to work under a big production house. after this film, he produced his own films.

Arguably the best of the 60's "blood and sandals"  epics.  Some fantastic acting from an all-star cast and hordes of extras for the big scenes when CGI in movies was just a science fiction concept.  Lawrence Olivier's "Crassus"  was a masterpiece. They  should have made a sequel about that particular Roman villain. Said to be (relatively) the richest man who has ever lived,  he eventually proved to be a better business man than a soldier, and he met a rather sticky end a very long way from his luxury villa.

Am I the only one who thinks George Clooney's look from Hail Ceaser was modeled after Lawrence Olivier's look from Spartacus.

From the Edge of the City (1998)

The "Edge of the City" means Menidi, a poor suburb on the edge of pulsating Athens (the city). Menidi harbours many Cosssack Greeks. They are also called "pontios", ethnic Greeks from the Black Sea dispersed through the ex-Southern Soviet Union in the Stalin era. The "pontios" have returned to Greece en masse after the demise of the USSR. The parents speak mostly Greek, but the teenage children speak a hybrid Russian-Greek language which reflects their lack of identity and marginalization in...
