Description Brandon and Philip are two young men who share a New York apartment. They consider themselves intellectually superior to their friend David Kentley and as a consequence decide to murder him. Together they strangle David with a rope and placing the body in an old chest, they proceed to hold a small party. The guests include David's father, his fiancée Janet and their old schoolteacher Rupert from whom they mistakenly took their ideas. As Brandon becomes increasingly more daring, Rupert begins to suspect.

This is one of Hitchcock's most under-rated films - it is a superbly made movie.

I see what you mean about the trailer, but the experience doesn't get wasted by that.

Talk about trailers that spoil the movie o-e

Somewhat bizarre that the murder victim in 'Rope' has a speaking role in the trailer, but not in the movie itself! Poor guy, what a thankless starring role that was, he is constantly referred to in the movie but only ever seen for around ten seconds in total!  One of my favourite movies and I think one of Hitchcock's finest. Hardly any violence and yet it is powerful and chilling throughout. The great James Stewart steals it of course!

1:17 made me think of the Menendez brothers. I half expected to see them bawling, with tears the size of bottle caps.

Jesus Christ I'm glad I didn't watch this before watching the movie.

One of the underrated Hitchcock films along with Shadow of a Doubt, both so rich in symbolism.

I wonder if this is the only case of a character(David) actually having more to say in a film's trailer than in the actual film itself(where he said nothing)

Looks like an interesting movie, but a terrible trailer.

It's amazing how a movie can miss just one very important detail based on fact and deter me from watching any of it.

Talk about a trailer giving away the plot!
  • ali veli 2014-05-06 07:07:51
terminator + Rope + The Space Knight or Rom = robocop
  • zhhika 2014-03-05 21:55:40
Ahhh those lovely times when you didn't have to watch movies because endings were revealed by trailers...

And that's the last time you'll ever see him alive!
