Description "Loggerheads" interweaves three separate but related stories that take place in different parts of North Carolina. On Mother's Day 1999, Mark, a young drifter with an interest in endangered loggerhead turtles, begins a relationship with motel handyman George. On Mother's Day 2000, Mark's adoptive mother Elizabeth wonders what has become of her estranged son. On Mother's Day 2001, Mark's birth mother Grace quits her job to begin a search for the child she gave up years before-a search that ultimately brings the stories together.

I was abandoned to my paternal grandparents when I was 4. My godparents served as my other set of parents and their son and daughter were my brother and sister. I learned to speak, read and write Italian, Spanish and French, learned to type with all my fingers, drive tractors and combines and ride horses at a very early age bc of my brother who became my partner later on. We worked our asses off and bought a Vespa GS 150cc when I was 12 and he was 14 and we went everywhere. I was always afraid my birthparents would show up and take me away. My birthfather came to a family dinner with his new wife and son when I was 14. My grandfather introduced him to me as my REAL father. After dinner I took him aside and told him, I want to thank you for leaving me with such a wonderful family. Did you notice I have two dads? Your dad has been my rock and my godfather my other dad. I don't want you to go around trying to be my friend and trying to be a part of my life or try to make me a part of your new family. Maybe someday we can be friends but not now. And that was that. We never became friends although he came around to visit his grandparents often since he moved nearby. My birthmother came when I was 21 and WE stopped at my grandparents just to see if they needed anything. My grandmother introduced the woman as my real mom. She got up and opened her arms and I stepped back, put my hands in front of me and said Please sit down. You kind of missed the show, the boat, my birthdays, my Christmases and all my accomplishments. She asked me to forgive her. I told her I had forgiven her a long time ago and thanked her for leaving me. I told her it was the best thing she could have done for me and thatI had had a wonderful time growing up. I told her about growing up in 10 minutes as if applying for a job. I asked my grandparents if they needed anything and they said no. I told them Mom and Dad would be by later. She asked if I talked to my dad. My grandmother explained I was talking about my godparents. I said we had to go. We were going away for the weekend. I only saw her one more time and politely cut her off. Some people thought I was wrong and should have let them into my life. I'm 65 now and don't regret anything.

I absolutely loved this movie. Sometimes something off main stream Hollywood is a good thing.

I saw this film recently. It's a very quiet and low-key film but very effective. Nice acting by the entire cast.
