Hello, Ian McKellen. Lynn Redgrave showed acting chops here that were a match for anything by her esteemed sister. The largely washed-up Brendan Fraser can look to this and tell his grandchildren he was in at least one outstanding movie. Yes, kids, the parts of those Karloff movies you laugh at were meant to be funny -- BEFORE Mel Brooks. In the 90s, we still had movies, before we figured out CGI. Computer technology has given us some wonderful doo-dads and knick-knacks; but in doing so, it's made us forget some things that were really wonderful.

If this weren't a film about a gay man, chances are it would never have gotten any of the Oscar nominations.

James Whale was certainly a great director who posessed great vision and flair. I can't believe how much Ian McKellen resembles the great man!

Shame Brendan Fraser doesn't do more dramatic roles. While he has comedic skills in spades. He's serious roles are so much better!
