Description Based upon the true story of Reverend Jim Jones, a self-proclaimed prophet who founded the Peoples Temple. In the 1960s, he began as an idealist helping minorities and working against racism. After a move to San Francisco and increased power and attention, Jim Jones became focused on his belief in nuclear holocaust. He had a loyal following of over 1000 people, who had donated their entire life savings to him and to join his commune, before moving them to Guyana. When possible illegal activities came to the attention of the authorities, and once notified that some individuals are being held against their will, they began to investigate. Rather that face the charges against him, Jim Jones committed suicide, and convinced virtually most of his followers to do the same.

Apparently, Jim Jones' father was irrelgious just like Hitler's father, Alois who treated young Adolf like dirt. I don't know whether Alois Hitler was racist or anti-Semitic. But coming from 19th Century Austria he probably was.

Why were there many white people in his Peoples Temple? I thought Jim Jones' People Temple was directed strictly towards blacks joining. With those wax figures showing blacks being hanged by the Ku Klux Klan or living in abject poverty,( part of Jones' scare tactics) at the end of the end part one of this movie? Why didn't he show wax figures of white Jews being tortured by white Nazis or white people living in abject poverty? Whites have suffered little if any persecution by KKK, at least not as much blacks. I can't believe that parents would take small children to see such horrifying images.

Wow, the actual FBI death tapes are so scary. I remember it a little bit. I was like 9 years old. My real name is Gianna, and all the bullies in school used to call me "Gianna Tragedy"... What a cult of personality. Jim Jones had a meth problem.

Am I brain washed? Every time that I see Lavar Burton I hear the Reading Rainbow theme song. "But you don't have to take my word for it".

I know this was one of the first movies/docs made about what happened. But in years since, other movies and docs have been made that makes this movie grossly inaccurate to what TRULY happened.

The first thing Jim Jones says "White alert, the mercenaries have been spotted in the jungle, they've come to kill us" etc etc. Is the intro to "Once Upon The Cross" by the band Deicide.

A Man of No Importance (1994)

Alfie Byrne is a middle-aged bus conductor in Dublin in 1963. He would appear to live a life of quiet desperation: he's gay, but firmly closeted, and his sister is always trying to find him "the right girl". His passion is Oscar Wilde, his hobby is putting on amateur theatre productions in the local church hall. We follow him as he struggles with temptation, friendship, disapproval, and the conservative yet oddly lyrical world of Ireland in the early 1960s.
