Description In July 1789, the French Revolution is rumbling. Far from the turmoil, at the Château de Versailles, King Louis XVI, Queen Marie-Antoinette and their courtiers keep on living their usual carefree lives. But when the news of the storming of the Bastille reaches them, panic sets in and most of the aristocrats and their servants desert the sinking ship, leaving the Royal Family practically alone. Which is not the case of Sidonie Laborde, the Queen's reader, a young woman, entirely devoted to her mistress; she will not give her up under any circumstances. What Sidonie does not know yet is that these are the last three days she will spend in the company of her beloved Queen...

Jesus fucking an apple christ have none of you people ever heard of the damn word bisexual????? I have no idea if Marie Antoinette ever had a female lover but seriously people it's possible to like guys and girls and nonbinary people. This story looks terribly cute and sad I look forward to watching the full film soon in all it's queer glory.

I'm gay and of course have no problem with it, but this isn't for the gay community or gay filmmakers to 'Find their moment' like sit down... don't take a legend of history and display her to the whole world that she was something she was not just so you can make a buck. I've become a HUGE fan and admirer of Marie and have learned quite a great deal about her amazing life and story. I'm not mad that this plain movie is just simply all about the idea of her being a lesbian, but that its horribly untrue to her real life's remarkable story. Such a disgrace and dishonor. Somewhere in France Marie is turning over in her grave.

Okay I have both a Neg/Pos point about movies like this.  The Negative - it makes me question my knowledge of history and the Positive - it makes me research my knowledge of history.  That means I have turned a Negative into a Positive.  Love it.

I´m very used to read serious biografies of Marie Antoniette. Evelyne Lever, Jean Plaidy and others. None of them even suggested lesbianism with Madame Polignac! It´s a pity a movie with that gorgeous art direction, figurines and mainly location (Versailles and Petit Trianon themselves!) instead of approaching true or at least interesting aspects of that crazy period of France, spend time with unbelievable theories for intimate aspects of Antoniette's life. I don't think the french people will appreciate it.

sorry i will speak on behalf of the people of france and the gay community , this film is inspired by a novel of chantal thomas and will therefore be somewhat true story of france and even if marie antoinette was the lesbian , judge  on what she could do and not on her sexual orientation

I saw this film. Although I'm not complaining about the scene, I still don't understand the point in her starring at the Duchess nude the way she did.

Okay all you homophopic suckers, even if Marie Antoinette was gay, so what? She is fucking dead now plus you have NO right what so ever to judge any person or even an animal for their personal preferences. If you are happy with your own life, shut the fuck up atleast

Isn't it fine to just watch this for entertainment and a good story. Is a discussion on her actual sexual orientation really necessary?  and does it matter? not only is it something personal for her, she's also dead.
  • Olivia Michelle 2013-11-04 13:12:09
If she loved another woman romantically she can't be classified as heterosexual! That just confuses these definitions. Labels aren't necessary but if you are going to use them better not confuse them

You already know that depressing event when your friend (who’s been a loser for a lifetime) gets a beautiful woman to fall in love with him in like a couple of weeks? Yep, that basically occured. I believe I should be pleased for him having said that I would prefer if it was me. He stated he applied the the Cupid Love System (Google it). I wish to hide inside a cave at present.
