Description In 1984 20 year old closet gay Joe hesitantly arrives in London from Bromley for his first Gay Pride march and is taken under the collective wing of a group of gay men and Lesbian Steph, who meet at flamboyant Jonathan and his Welsh partner Gethin's Soho bookshop. Not only are gays being threatened by Thatcher but the miners are on strike in response to her pit closures and Northern Irish activist Mark Ashton believes gays and miners should show solidarity. Almost by accident a mini-bus full of gays find themselves in the Welsh village of Onllwyn in the Dulais valley and through their sincere fund raising and Jonathan's nifty disco moves persuade most of the community that they are on the same side. When a bigot tries to sabotage the partnership with a tabloid smear Mark turns it back on her with a hugely successful benefit concert to which most of the villagers, now thoroughly in tune with their gay friends, turn up. The miners are defeated and return to work but at the Pride march the following year a vast contingent of miners show up to repay their comrades with their show of support.

One of my friends from drama group was in this movie, that prompted me to go see it. I honestly haven't had this much fun in a movie for a long time! And I must applaud Bill Nighy's Welsh accent! Imelda Staunton... not so much.

This film is absolutely SUBLIME!!! It's non sensationalist or going for false sentiments, it's pure brilliance and REAL! An absolute must see. OSCAR WORTHY.

This was or is one of the most astonishing movies I have ever seen in the year 2014 or even starting this new century.  I could not believe of the excitement and performances in this picture.  You don't have to be gay or support gay in order to enjoy this picture.  Why? Because were are in 2015 now and times have changed.  I expected this film to involve sex, drugs, relationships and tragedy.  It was better than that, it was about true events of gay activists who know what it is like to be disowned and not accepted in their own community helping another community get back on their feet.  It shows that gay people are fun and exciting to be around and don't let others beat them down.  What an amazing picture and full of life, one of the best of the century!

Can't believe the comments tbh. Why are people still so whiney and ignorant? It's 2015. Stop trying to oppress people, we're meant to have moved on from these shitty ideologies.

loved it. it was funny and heartwarming. didn't take itself too seriously but there were a lot of actually strong moments. i liked how it didn't constantly trip over overdone plotlines and kept moving.

You know homophobic people and gay people are all the same to me!!  XP They should make a movie too and you should support it!

You know this is okay as long as you guys don't think yourself as superior or start some community that goes against some other community cause as we can see form history that always ends up catastrophically in the future.
