Lots of oddities. Why sing? Why recite a motto? Why suggest extracurricular activities? Seems like a interior monologue he is having with himself while talking to Brad, hoping for some direction. Be patriotic. Be thrifty. Be brave. Hell! Stay busy being anything but gay. And self control might work too. Andy eventually accepts what Brad already knows. Gay is not a choice. Bourbon or being "hypnotized" may explain gay acts. But neither last as long as being gay.

like the split screen shows lots of emotions and bothnpoint of view at the same time something you don't see often

What a clever film. I too liked the split screen, very effective, especially in the closeups. I wonder if handing over the jacket has the same significance as when I was in high school - a way of publicly declaring one's love, claiming one's loved one.

Andy made me super uncomfortable at first, but then i sat back and listened to what he said and thought about their demographic and I understood everything.
