Don't waste your time with this movie. It is gay as hell. And I mean gay in both the literal and figurative sense. I think that Lovecraft would have been appalled having watched this. It isn't enough that the main character has to be gay, no they to really go into his gay life with gay scenes between himself as a young man with his friend and with a gay scene with he and the same friend in the present time, as if it is normal and acceptable. Yes people might say that "there is nothing wrong with being gay," but it is not the majority opinion and the major sexual preference in the world among mankind. Over all it is a terrible movie and I give it a 1 of 10 This is just another example of how ass pirates shit all over everything that is good. Lovecraft is an amazing writer, but this does not even come close to doing him justice as an author. This movie is a piece of shit.

It is a great film if you embrace the notion that the main character is the bad guy, and he must just give in. Primal Serenity and Potent Patience. They will return.

I just got done watching this, and I have to say it it one of the best movies based off Lovecraft. Dagon was great, and John Carpenter's "In The Mouth Of Madness" was also a great movie, but this one seems to attach itself directly to the Cthulhu Mythos directly as the main plot This movie movie isn't based on one specific Lovecraft story. Think of it as a combination of 'The Festival', 'The Shadow Over Innsmouth', and the investigation aspects of 'The Call Of Cthulhu'. Suprisingly, it works!
