I watched this film last spring, and have watched it a few times since. What got me is that Jonathan may have fallen for Raul on the rebound, when he obviously wasn't over Troy. Had Troy stayed away, things would've been just fine, but... he didn't. I highly recommend watching.

Really good movie! Unfortunately this trailer doesn't do it justice. Glad I didn't see some of these negative comments before I saw the film. I might have missed a good movie. Found it unexpectedly on Netflix and was pleasantly surprised. For all those that left negative comments, I would like suggestions on what you consider a good movie in this genre. In my opinion this was good across the board - directing, writing, editing, acting, cinematography - regardless of genre.

I think a film thats a lot more rightfully comparable to mainstream films and a lot more commendable would be Keep the Lights On. I think this film, August, wants desperately to be more poignant than it actually is as made obvious by the endless scenes of the characters' silent reflections. Its honestly really just another shallow gay film with bad acting and stupid characters that spend the entirety of the film modeling for the cameras spliced with sexually graphic scenes for the sake of there being nudity (of course). Im being a BIT too cynical I suppose, even with its pretension and poor plot execution masquerading as high end id give it the credit of being among the top of the heap of shit gay films. Its certainly better than some but its also certainly not very good.

People liked this? Quite possibly one of the worst movies that I've ever seen. Everything was bad. Poor music choices, they just didn't fit. Awkward, clunky writing and dialogue. Poor film editing. Poor cinematography. Horrible sound mixing, especially with background noises and characters speaking at the same time. Cringeworthy acting and delivery. Tedious screenplay. All of this has to be due to poor writing and directing. Everyone involved in this movie should be exiled from Hollywood, extras included just to be safe. What a sloppy, tedious mess.

Beyond the Valley of the Dolls (1970)

This film is a sequel in name only to Valley of the Dolls (1967). An all-girl rock band goes to Hollywood to make it big. There they find success, but luckily for us, they sink into a cesspool of decadence. This film has a sleeping woman performing on a gun which is in her mouth. It has women posing as men. It has lesbian sex scenes. It is also written by Roger Ebert, who had become friends with Russ Meyer after writing favorable reviews of several of his films.
